Sign of a good BBQ place: you smell pleasantly like smoke/smoked meat after dining there. Second sign: you can smell the meat/smoke from the parking lot. Dickey's BBQ Pit meets both of the above criteria. Had lunch with some co-workers and one of them demanded we go here. For $5 I got a Lil' Hoagie sandwich with 2 sides and one of their enormous yellow cups. You get to choose from like 8 different meats for the sandwich, I went with chopped brisket and it was delicious! They top it with their own sauce, onions and pickles. The sandwich looks small but that with the 2 sides is more than enough food for a girl like me. My sides were the baked potato casserole and the BBQ beans. Loved the potatoes, not crazy about the beans. I wouldn't get the beans again. And to top it all off, free ice cream!! You can't be that!

I have been to this Dickey's location maybe 8-10 times. This time I went on a Sunday morning around 11:15am. They open at 11am. I pulled into the drive thru, as all I wanted was a rack of ribs to go. No one was tending to the drive through. I sat there about 5 minutes, and finally called the store. One person working the whole place. That doesn't make a lot of sense. It took about 20 minutes to get my food. The ribs were tender, but EXTREMELY fatty. They also did not take the membrane off the ribs before smoking them, nor did they attempt to trim the ribs in any way. What looked like good ribs from 5 feet away turned out to be a pile of fat, cartilage, and small bones. Their sauce also lacks a lot in flavor. For fast food BBQ, I am going to stick to Famous Dave's.

So, yeah, Dickey's is a big, soulless franchise and it's not hip to frequent such places. I mean, there's no way a big, soulless franchise could produce anything even close to remotely authentic BBQ, right? Well, I'll be honest, I don't know the first thing about "authentic BBQ" (and have a sneaking suspicion most that rant on and on about authentic BBQ don't either). I do however know what I like when it comes to food and I know what good service feels like. I've been to a few other Dickey's locations in the cities and have found them all to be pretty good. Yeah, it's not my top choice for BBQ but it's not bad either and I'd take it over the highly overrated Famous Dave's any day. I stopped in their Coon Rapids location on a recent Saturday night to grab a quick bite to eat. They weren't terribly busy, maybe about a third of their tables filled and one person in line in front of me. There were 6 or 7 people working behind the counter who all mostly seemed to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It took nearly 10 minutes to get through the line and pay for me food (keep in mind, one person in line in front of me who didn't appear to be ordering anything out of the ordinary). So, I paid and sat down to enjoy my two meat plate with brisket, smoked cheddar sausage, mac&cheese and mashed potatoes. First bad sign: The brisket appeared to be mostly gelatinous fat. I dug in and indeed, the brisket was mostly fat. Beyond that, little to no flavor, no hint of smoke. Ugh. Next up, the sausage. It's pretty hard to screw this one up and it appears they did, in pretty much the only way possible. It was barely above room temperature. I considered going back to the counter and asking for a replacement meal but as the staff appeared to still be running around frantically, I decided to just go with it. The mac&cheese was pretty mushy. The potatoes were probably the best part of the meal. I'm willing to give Dickey's another shot but not at this location.

don't go here. two young kids working and one I think was in training. the girl who sliced the brisket wiped the knife edge clean on the side of the counter to get the residue off instead of washing it with soap and water. I wanted to walk out right then and there and should have. Just noticed this place charged my check card twice, once at the coon rapids store where I purhased food and noticed they deducted the exact same amount from their Burnsville store the next day. BEWARE, do not go here! You'll either get sick and/or money stolen from your account!

To start out, when we walked in, we were the only people in line. Not one of the 5 staff greeted us or said anything to us for 5 minutes. When they finally said something they more demanded our order rather than asking and by the time we checked out we ended up having to repeat each order 4 times. They handed us our bags, and when they felt light we decided to check to make sure we had all the right sides. Turned our they forgot to put four out of our eight sides in the bag. We ask for the missing sides and they hand them to us without an apology. We get home with our food to find that they also forgot to put an entire plate in the bag and have charged us for 2 yellow cups which we did not ask for or receive. To sum it up, this is by far the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant and will never be going back.

First time eating here and found a huge piece of bone in my sandwich. Luke warm side of jalapeno beans. Cole slaw was okay. Nothing special here. I think the McRib is more flavorful.

I'm saddened. We went to this Dickey's a second time, and it might be my last time going to this location. I had the same food, this time it was sub-par. The meat was fatty and chewy, the beans were luke-warm and mushy, the coleslaw was bland. My mother had the same food, and didn't even eat most of it. The staff were slow and honestly acted like they needed assistance to even function. What made this worse, so that I'm pretty sure one of the staff was either an owner or manager - but he was too busy talking to a particular table to guests to manage doing his job effectively. This location was good the one time, but horrible the next. I hope all Dickey's aren't like this, I'll be finding out because I will definitely be visiting other locations from now on.

Certainly edible, but nothing to get excited about, especially with Q Fanatic (excellent BBQ place) so close in Champlin. Food is edible, the chopped pork is all right, coleslaw is OK. Nothing else is worth mentioning. Don't forget the BBQ sauce if you get takeout - they forgot mine once. I've gone there multiple times, but I can't stomach it now that I've eaten at Q Fanatic.

This place went down hill quick! Must be from the monopoly they are trying. Seems there's a Dickey's within 10 miles in whichever direction you go. That's all fine and dandy, but keep with the awesome quality and service you had in the beginning! The food is cold when you get it now, not very well trimmed anymore, and the staff doesn't have the excitement they used to have. Plus they started cutting the pickles in half, really? How much does a pickle cost? If you're worried about the cost, change 50 cents for a whole one!

We decided to go here for Father's day and I do not feel the need to ever return. They ran out of ribs, pulled pork, chicken breast, and cheddar sausage . They also were out of ice cream and they could not tell me they were out of ribs until I got to the end of the line. The garbage was over flowing . I have to say it was more comical than maddening how everything was being run, which is why I will not return. They were more concerned with charging for the food even though I did not have it yet. Then to top it off, the brisket and the polish sausage were cold along with my wife's ribs that were the last ones in the house . The response from people working there was sorry but no offer to warm them up. The waffle fries and mac and cheese were good. When the crew behind the counter started arguing that was also kind of funny.

Dickey's is like the BBQ equivalent of a McDonald's. What do you expect, it's a national franchise serving over the counter. Go elsewhere (hint: Q Fanatic is only 5 miles away) if you are looking for high quality BBQ. Their food generally isn't bad, though at this one it is uneven. I have had brisket that was terrible while here and another time I had it, it was pretty good. Service is akin to a fast food place, and I am being generous on that one. The food isn't bad, it's just not great either. If you are looking for a quick BBQ fix and don't have high expectations, this will do. Otherwise, your options within 10 minutes of here should make you go elsewhere.
